Meet Peggy
The theme of Women’s History Month is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories”. Tell us your story.
4 years ago, I had no idea that Product Design even existed. On a whim, I signed up for a Design 101 course. That led me to a UX bootcamp, freelancing, many rejections, until I landed my first role. I’m now in my third year at Rokt working with an amazing team of Designers and discovering there’s still so much to learn everyday!
Share 3 adjectives you would use to describe yourself in your own story.
Curious, open-minded, persistent.
Who is a woman who has inspired you in the workplace and why?
Sarah Burton! Aside from being an amazing designer, she has this incredible versatility to be both assertive and compassionate, confident and humble, and professional and amiable. She’s fiercely passionate about paving the way for women in tech and fighting for a voice in the room. I think that’s what makes her such a great leader and inspiration to me.
Why did you decide to pursue a role in product design?
I love being able to make things better. Product Design is all about solving problems and making things better for your users. Just like how you’d see yourself getting stronger every month at the gym, being able to make your product better after every iteration is really rewarding and just so much fun!
What strengths do you think that women (or more women representation) can bring to the product space?
We need women in tech because we need products in the world that are designed by and designed for people who use those products. Having people with different perspectives and experiences in a room not only means we can design better products, but we can also get exposed to more ideas and creative solutions.
What is a favorite memory you have while working at Rokt?
Being at Whistler for this year’s Global Kick Off (GKO) with everyone this year was incredible! I have a particular memory of a bunch of us from Sydney dashing through the terminals at the San Francisco Airport trying to make our connecting flight. Half of us got left behind, including me, and I think the shared experience of defeat brought us closer together.
What are some of your hobbies or passions outside of the office? How do you spend your free time?
I enjoy bouldering, dance and going to the gym. Movement makes me happy! I also adopted a greyhound last year and I’m still trying to figure her out!
How is Rokt different from other places you’ve worked?
It’s the people! Two years later and I can still say I haven’t met a single person who isn’t friendly. It’s been a privilege to work with such diligent, approachable and intelligent colleagues.
What is one thing you’re looking forward to in the next 3-5 years at Rokt?
I’m looking forward to our Design team growing bigger and better! We’ve made big strides in the last few years. We’re working on impactful and interesting problems right now, and I can’t wait to see where this momentum carries us in the future.
What Rokt core value do you most identify with?
Raise the bar. I never like to stay stagnant in both my professional and personal life, so I’m really grateful for everyone at Rokt who’s inspired me and helped me to be a better version of myself.
What was your favorite band in highschool and why?
I loved UVERworld! I didn’t know who any of the members were (and I still don’t) but they had the BEST anime opening songs.
