Rokt’star spotlight: JaCory Myers
As Rokt sets out to unleash its best year yet, we’re taking a moment to highlight some of the Rokt’stars that help their teams thrive by challenging the status quo and working in different ways. Read on to hear about their time at Rokt and what makes them tick both in and out of the office.
Meet JaCory
Tell us a little more about yourself.
This March marks one year at Rokt. Currently, I’m a Business Development Manager and loving all of the challenges that come with being in a sales position. Prior to Rokt, I was at Nielsen for three years in multiple Customer Success roles. It was there that I gained a lot of the skills and connections that have enabled me to succeed at Rokt.
What are your hopes for the tech industry becoming more inclusive? And what are some hopes for Rokt specifically?
I hope that we see more spotlight features like this. There are many diverse groups within tech that are underrepresented and as a result, receive less visibility across the space. I’d like to see Rokt continue to lean into giving folks the opportunity to be visible as well as bring in talent from all walks of life.
How have you seen Blak’stars impact Rokt’s culture, and what does it mean to you to be a part of it?
Overall, I believe we’re creating a more inclusive and diverse culture here at Rokt. This is going to be a huge year for Blak’stars as we’ll be holding more events, developing longer term plans for the group, and building the Black community. To be a part of it excites me about the future of this company!
What do you like most about working at Rokt?
What I love most about Rokt is how everyone is high-performing yet fun. It creates an environment that pushes you to grow in ways you didn’t know you could.
What are some of your hobbies or passions outside of the office? How do you spend your free time?
During the pandemic, one of the things I missed most was going to the movie theaters and watching a good movie. Now that things are more normal, it’s quite rare for me to miss a major blockbuster release. I also grew up playing a ton of video games and routing for the NY Giants and Lakers (Eli Manning and Kobe Bryant are the true GOATs). While my free time is more split between outings with family, friends, and my amazing fiancé, I still find time to catch the games and get a few sessions on my PS5.
How is Rokt different from other places you’ve worked?
Rokt is the most transparent workplace I’ve ever worked in. Everything from salaries to future growth plans are explicitly laid out to everyone in the business. It’s refreshing and helps create a sense of trust with leadership.
What’s your favorite memory from your time at Rokt?
The 2022 Global Kick Off (GKO) in Hawaii was one of the best work experiences of my life thus far. To be a new starter at the company and have the opportunity to connect with every single Rokt’star over the span of five days in Hawaii was so cool!
What is one thing you’re looking forward to in the next 3-5 years at Rokt?
As a Black man in tech, I look forward to seeing the growth of the Black population at Rokt. I believe this year Blak’stars and our recruiting team will do a great job of laying the groundwork for some huge growth in that area for years to come. I’m also excited to see what frontiers Rokt conquers next in the world of ecommerce.
What Rokt core value do you most identify with?
I most identify our core value “Force for Good”. I can not stress enough the importance of creating an environment that is diverse and inclusive, investing in the growth of those around you, and being fair and equitable. When an organization hits the mark on all of those pillars, everything else will follow.
What was your favorite band in highschool and why?
While I loved Maroon 5, Nickelback, N-Sync, I spent much more time listening to Jay-Z as well as older artists like Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Bill Withers, and Michael Jackson. I owe much of my musical taste today to my parents and my siblings.
